Flanker Radars in Beyond Visual Range Air Combat (APA) NPP Istok now have an automated production line for this purpose, paid for by the Russian MoD, claimed to have capacity to manufacture enough modules for 50 radars annually. Analysis of the PAK-FA AESA design indicates that it will match or outperform most US AESAs currently in operational service. Current indications are that India will be retrofitting a variant of this AESA to their N011M BARS equipped Su-30MKI Flanker H fighters. |

PLA guided bombs (APA) From Air Power Australia. Observation: A decade ago the PLA operated no guided bombs of domestic origin. Today China is designing, manufacturing and exporting analogues to the Paveway I/II, the Enhanced Paveway III, the JDAM, the winged JDAM ER and the Laser JDAM. At this stage it is unlikely that the PLA has the sophisticated jam resistant antenna/receiver technology used in the latest US weapons, but at the current rate of evolution this cannot be far away. This is yet another example of China closing the technology gap at remarkable speed. |
